OpsAct vs Datadog Bits AI
Bits AI is Datadog’s AI layer. It investigates using the telemetry you already send to Datadog, and is priced in AI credits. If Datadog sees everything you run, it is a natural choice. OpsAct works with Datadog and with Zabbix, Prometheus, Nagios and the rest, and it reaches systems your monitoring doesn’t.
At a glance
| OpsAct | Datadog Bits AI | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | A control plane hosted in the EU, plus small agents on your sites that only dial out | Datadog’s cloud, as part of the Datadog platform |
| Where your data is processed | EU only. Credentials and raw data stay on your sites | Your Datadog site; check Bits AI availability for EU sites |
| What it covers | Hybrid estates: VMware, Windows and Linux servers, databases, network switches, Kubernetes and cloud | The telemetry you send to Datadog |
| Discovery and dependency map | Built in. Finds what you run and maps what depends on what, before any incident | Uses Datadog’s own service and infrastructure data |
| Fixes | Runs fixes from reviewed runbooks, shown as flowcharts with every step’s risk labelled | Suggests fixes; Bits Code can propose code changes |
| Approval before changes | Every change to production waits for a person. More autonomy is earned per runbook | Not stated on the pages we checked |
| Learning from past incidents | Remembers past incidents and turns approved fixes into runbooks | Not stated on the pages we checked |
| DORA and NIS2 reports | Drafts DORA and NIS2 incident reports for a person to check and send | Not stated on the pages we checked |
| Pricing | A platform fee by estate size, from €1,500 a month for up to 250 systems, investigations included | AI credits: about 6.5 credits an investigation, at $1 a credit on an annual plan or $1.30 on demand (about $6.50 to $8.45) |
Where OpsAct differs
Any monitoring, not one vendor
OpsAct reads alerts from Datadog and from Zabbix, Prometheus, Nagios, Checkmk and over 100 other sources, and reaches systems directly through read-only logins.
EU only
OpsAct processes your data in the EU, and credentials and raw data stay on your sites.
Fixes with approval built in
Plans come from reviewed runbooks, each step marked by risk, and run only after a person approves.
Predictable cost
A platform fee by estate size, with investigations included, instead of credits per investigation.
Which one fits
Choose Datadog when
- Everything you run already reports to Datadog.
- You want AI inside the tool your team already uses every day.
- Your estate is mostly cloud and Kubernetes.
Choose OpsAct when
- Your monitoring is a mix of tools, or not Datadog at all.
- Data must be processed in the EU.
- You want approved fixes on VMware, Windows, databases and switches.
- You want a flat price you can budget for.
Using them together
OpsAct reads Datadog alerts and queries Datadog during investigations, so you can keep Datadog and add OpsAct for the parts of the estate and the fixes it doesn’t cover.
